Camp Out - The Movie

Speaking of Kirk, he recently finished his first feature length documentary called CAMP OUT. He produced and directed the movie with one of his friends, Larry Grimaldi. The movie will be screening in several cities over the next few weeks and months, and he would love for you to attend one of the screenings.

Campout CAMP OUT follows ten Midwestern teenagers as they attend the first overnight Bible Camp for gay Christian youths. For these six boys and four girls, it’s just as hard to come out as Christian as it is to come out as gay. They’re caught in the battle between religion, politics and sexuality that’s raging in the United States today. These kids are outsiders – their straight classmates ostracize them and their churches reject them. But like all teens, they yearn to feel at home, somewhere. Struggling to find a way to be true to both their spirituality and their sexual identity, these teens come to camp hoping to finally find a place of acceptance. For more info about the movie please visit the website.

Screenings of CAMP OUT will be held in LOS ANGELES, NEW YORK, SAN FRANCISCO, PHILADELPHIA, ATLANTA, PROVINCETOWN, PITTSBURGH, AUSTIN, and ROCHESTER  (see the details below). More festivals are being added all the time. Please check the website for additions.

Kirk says,

"This movie is truly a work of love for myself and the entire crew.  We’re attempting to get a distributor to get the movie out on television and DVD — but in order to do this we need to fill these screenings to show the powers that be that there is a large audience for the film. I appreciate your support and encourage you to forward this e-mail to your family and friends."

Please let him know if you have any questions. He also looks forward to hearing what you think of the movie.

The Da Vinci Code

CodeIsaac, Jimmy (neighbor) and I went to see the movie yesterday. We lucked out and got into the first showing here in Costa Rica. Actually, the VIP section is way nicer than any movie theater I've seen anywhere in the world. The seats recline, they have foot rests, waiters come by to see if you need sushi, burgers, beer, wine, popcorn. Not such a bad deal for only seven dollars ($3.50 on Wednesdays)!

So back to the movie. I had heard the reviews weren't all that great. But we all loved the movie. Yeah, of course it wasn't 100% true to the book. Maybe 95%. But since I read the book 2 years ago, it seemed perfect to me. This is one I would certainly recommend. And if you haven't read the book yet...shame on you! Click on the link below and get it.

The Pink Panther

PinkpanthI just got back from the movies. I went to see the Steve Martin version of The Pink Panther. I'm not sure how I got talked into going in the first place. And, as I had expected, I sat there for the first 15 minutes or so thinking to myself, "I hate these kinds of movies!"

I mean, that Steve Martin kind of humor just doesn't usually do much for me. I always get the feeling that I'm supposed to be laughing (mostly because everyone else is), but just can't get myself to do it.

However, I found myself laughing my ass off. There were some truly funny parts to the movie. I especially like the scene where Martin was trying to learn how to speak with an accent of a person from the US. I was almost peeing my pants! I'd certainly recommend it. Though I imagine it's probably not even playing in the US anymore. We don't often get movies here in Costa Rica in a timely fashion. But at least you can rent it. It'll be worth your time.
